SIRUM helps free clinics around the U.S. obtain the medicine and medical supplies that they need to run successfully. Using information technology, SIRUM matches donors such as pharmaceutical companies with the clinics most in need of medicine and supplies.

The two projects for SIRUM are 1) helping the organization update their system to implement a new revenue model that will let them become a self-sustaining nonprofit and 2) creating summaries and visualizations of SIRUM's demand and usage data to sell to government agencies.

Based on the successful model of the Grameen Bank founded in Bangladesh, Grameen America provides small loans and other financial services to low-income entrepreneurs in the United States. Their goal is to help give these entrepreneurs the ability to lift themselves out of poverty.

The hackers working with this organization will develop a section of the Grameen America website where college teams can post information about themselves and their members, share their progress, and compete with one another.

Globan Artisans helps refugees in Utah become self-sufficient through part-time entrepreneurial activities, such as the creation of hand-crafted gifts which the organization sells.

OpenMRS is an open-source electronic medical record system that has been implemented in twenty countries. By using OpenMRS, health care programs in developing countries can manage information more efficiently and thereby function more effectively overall.

ASAP Africa, which calls itself a self-help assistance program, is an organization that supports development in African communities by enabling people to help themselves more effectively. They run micro-finance projects to increase household income, provide agricultural training, and work to improve rural education in Zimbabwe and Malawi.

The hackers will create a section of ASAP Africa's website for the organization's "Summer Harvest of Hope" campaign. People planning charity events as part of the campaign will be able to use the site to make guest lists and automatically send invitations, and event participants can go to the site to find details and to upload photos.

The AIDS Housing Alliance strives to prevent homelessness among those with HIV/AIDS in San Francisco. They help people with HIV/AIDS find affordable housing and work to protect the housing that those with HIV/AIDS already have.

There are two potential projects for AHASF. The first is to automate the organization's intake process and create a secure area of the website where HIV positive people can find roommates. The second is to create an iPhone app that sells the organization's coffee beans.

IDEAS (International Development through Environmental Accountability and Sustainability) works to increase sustainability and environmental awareness in developing countries through hands-on projects for students. The organization has formed partnerships with academic institutions in eight different countries.

Grace's Children helps children in Kenya who have been neglected or orphaned due to physical and mental disability. The organization finds safe homes for these children, helps them obtain medical care, and provides them with educational resources.

The hackers will be working to create a game for the Grace's Children website in which players will drag bricks to build up a house. The game will be collaborative in the sense that multiple players will be able to work on building the same house simultaneously. Each click will donate 1 penny in sponsorship funds to the organization.

FACE AIDS is a student-led organization formed to combat AIDS in Africa through the efforts of students. Through the pinmaking projects organized by FACE AIDS, HIV association members in Rwanda can earn money by making beaded pins, which students in the U.S. then use for fundraising and spreading AIDS awareness. The profits of FACE AIDS go to support Partners in Health.

Open Data Kit (ODK) is a suite of tools to help organizations collect, aggregate and visualize their data. Our goals are to make open-source and standards-based tools which are easy to try, easy to use, easy to modify and easy to scale.

Internalization: ODK have an active community that wants to contribute translated strings for ODK. Currently, they rely on email and spreadsheets to accomplish this. This project would build an online application that would automate this process. This application isn't specific to ODK and could benefit any open Android project. Simple Server Support: One of the most requested features from the community is the ability to run a local server that can accept data from Collect and store it on a local machine. Simplicity is key here.

Hidden Villa is a nonprofit educational organization that uses its organic farm, wilderness, and community to teach and provide opportunities to learn about the environment and social justice.

Friends of the Mandela Rhodes Foundation is interested in merging two slightly different databases. Hackers will build a generic web service with the ability to compare entries and intelligently decide whether or not they are similar according to a user-defined set of rules. This web service will then be immediately used to merge the databases of the organization. The foundation is also interested in the generation of board presentation reports. Given the annual donor history, a web service would complete an analysis of the data, present the results in a clean and informative format and finally generate a portable report.

Habitat for Humanity builds decent and affordable housing with and for those in need. The organization works in communities around the world to choose homeowners, recruit and organize volunteers, and coordinate the building process.

The Habitat project will involve building a game for Habitat's website to help spread the word about the organization. In the game, players will try to build houses as fast as they can using a set of tools and materials. Alternatively, the game could be made for Facebook or as an iPhone app.
